Rounds Statement on President Biden Withdrawing Nomination of David Chipman as Director of ATF

PIERRE – U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) released the following statement after President Biden withdrew the nomination of David Chipman as the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

“David Chipman’s out-of-touch, anti-gun views threatened the Second Amendment rights of thousands of law-abiding South Dakotans,” said Rounds. “Throughout his career and during his hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chipman made derogatory comments toward lawful gun owners and made clear his intent to undermine Americans’ constitutional rights. Chipman’s radical positions on gun ownership undoubtedly threatened the outdoor heritage that South Dakotans have enjoyed for generations. It is important for President Biden to now nominate an individual who will respect the Second Amendment, reject burdensome federal regulations and work alongside our nation’s sportsmen.”
